Why I'm Doing This

Welcome to my Veterans Helping Veterans blog!  My name is Steve Dade and I am a disabled veteran going on four years now.  I decided to start this blog because I have found that the best help I have received with veterans' issues and VA issues has come from other veterans.  This site is designed in a way so people can ask me questions and I can try to help answer.  If I don't know the answer I will either try to find it out or make a posting requesting others to help.

I have had my fair shares of difficulty since my times in the Army; physically, mentally, and otherwise.  If you are a veteran or a family member of a veteran I want you to know that you are not alone in your struggles.  Sometimes it is difficult to get help through the VA, and sometimes it might feel like there is nobody out there to make things easier.  That is why we need to stick together.

You can expect to hear some stories that I have from my experiences as a veteran and postings about helpful resources for veterans.  If you want to hear about something in particular, write a comment or send me an email at redsoxfandade@yahoo.com.  Any emails or questions can be strictly confidential if you choose, so feel free to contact me.

  1. I wanted to post something that I should have taken advantage of earlier but now that I am late with it I am regretting it now. For those veterans who are now pursuing a degree, make sure that your college, university, or othe institution receives a copy of your military transcripts such as the SMART Transcripts (Marine/Navy) or your AART Transcripts (Army/National Guard). A lot of your military schools and training programs will be listed in these transcripts along with recommendations of credit transfers for each toward a degree. Now it is up to the secondary institution (college or university) on whether they want to honor these transfer credits. Take advantage of getting your transcripts to the school you are attending or will be attending as many of these credits can satisfy those of elective courses. My SMART Transcripts were received late at Plymouth State University and come to find out, the office of undergraduate studies were going to accept a total of 18 credits from my SMART Transcripts to be used towards my elective course credits. To my dismay, I realized that a majority of my elective credits were already satisfied by other courses that I had already taken at Plymouth State University. Yes, these credits that were transferred from my military experiences will be included in my final transcripts after I graduate Plymouth State which makes my final transcripts look that much more better but it is a disappointment that these credits could have been used to satisfy elective courses that to my disappointment I had already taken. Lessoned learned for today, take advantage of your past and present experiences, everything we do in life will affect in one way or another later in the future.
